It is difficult to know what is right in all cases. - M.B., I.210.29

The Versifier

I am a craftsman,
Lo! Behold my intellect!
I am the designer of verses,
Old themes I re-enact,

I am no poet for
I do not have any insight,
No maturity of experience and
No magnificence of mind,

I have mastered the art of letters,
My muse are homophones & thesaurus,
Mere sound and no sense,
Empty, holey and porous,

Can you feel my mood barren?
See through my icy
Eyes? Can you feel my heart?
Judge with my psyche?

Albeit this language
Of the soul transcends my brain,
But I am a doubter, nay, a skeptic,
Thence, I persevere in vain,

My art is an accident,
Inducer of choler and ire,
A clever undergraduate,
I am the versifier
"Said Hamlet to Ophelia,
I'll draw a sketch of thee,
What kind of pencil shall I use?
2B or not 2B?"
- Spike Milligan.
